We have drafted four all-star future lawyers to join us for our SLG Summer Leadership and Mentorship (SLAM) internship. Each week, the interns will recap their experiences and lessons learned.

This week, I wrote an article about employee dress code while working from home and whether or not the policy can lead to discrimination allegations. I researched local rules for several courts to draft certain motions and helped calendar scheduling orders for state and federal court. Working at SLG has been a very eye-opening experience as to what life as an attorney will look like because I have learned things that are not taught in law school, such as, the importance of team collaboration. Being able to consult the other interns has been beyond helpful because we are all working on different things, so when we have questions we can reach out to each other!

This week, I conducted legal research for an article Kennedy K. and I are drafting. I am really enjoying the process of working with her and Ms. Britton—the assigning associate—in drafting the upcoming article and seeing the progress we are making. The highlight of my week was the opportunity to network with a current SLG client and start researching and drafting an informal memo on a complex contract issue for her.

This week, I continued working with the other SLAM interns on our article concerning labor and employment law trends. It has been so great working with the other interns and being able to research topics that interest us. Just like all of our assignments throughout the summer, working on our articles has stressed the importance of teamwork and good communication. It has truly been incredible working with everyone at SLG and I am gaining such a valuable experience!

This week, I had the opportunity to write an article about returning to the office after the pandemic. There are a lot of things that must be considered when returning to in-person, including what to wear. There are a lot of professionals who are now re-considering their professional wardrobe after working from home for a year due to lifestyle changes or an unexpected weight change. I really enjoyed researching and writing on this topic because it has been a great reminder of the importance of empathy. Returning to in-person work is no small feat, so a little extra kindness can go a long way!
